Erin Bastian: Kayaking Patagonia

July 3, 2017 by badassery No Comments

Erin Bastian is an adventurer and expedition leader. Her love of sea kayaking (she’s a qualified instructor) has led to some epic adventures on sea, including paddling an incredible 800km down the west coast of Patagonia (one of the world’s toughest wildernesses), Chile, in 33 days.

She’s pretty awesome on bike and foot too, cycling 1300km around Iceland, and training for her upcoming running challenge to run the 190km-long, jagged mountain ridge of Corsica’s GR20.

Here, we kick off talking about Erin’s Chilean sea kayak expedition in Patagonia.

Five Minutes With… Belgian National Cycling Champion, Jolien D’hoore

June 30, 2017 by badassery No Comments

Last weekend, Pro cyclist and sprint specialist, Jolien D’hoore, took the Belgium National Road Race title, adding four-time national road race champion to her cycling CV. Today, on the opening day of the Giro Rosa, Jolien will line up with her Wiggle High5 team mates  to take on the Team Time Trial, so it seems fitting to share the chat I had with the 27-year-old ‘Belgian Bullet’ earlier this month.

I grabbed five minutes with Jolien a few hours ahead of her stage win on the final day of the OVO Women’s Tour in London.

Project: Get Bike Fit For Summer!

June 23, 2017 by badassery No Comments

With too much work and too little training recently, my fitness has taken a serious nose-dive. I’m probably the least fit I’ve been in three years. I’ve even been struggling to get a burpees session in. (Unheard of!)

Francesca Chiorando: Adventure TV Presenter

June 21, 2017 by badassery No Comments

As part of her job for insight.tv. adventure presenter Francesca Chiorando gets paid to do some pretty cool things for a living. You might also recognise the keen obstacle course racer from last year’s reality TV show, Spartan X, which pitted contestants against each other in ‘games’ of physical strength and mental agility.

I grab some time with Fran to talk Troll hunting, Spartan X, and eating disgusting Icelandic delicacies as part of her new insight.tv Access All Areas TV series, which started yesterday.

Laura Jones: Marathon Challenge

June 19, 2017 by badassery No Comments

In August last year, Laura Jones couldn’t run a kilometre. But now, 10 months later, she has three marathons under her belt as part of her incredible ICANRUN7 challenge to run 7 marathons on 7 continents within a year. Yesterday she hit marathon number three, in Banff.

I quizzed Laura about her experience so far, including how it felt to run the highest trail race on Earth, the Everest Marathon.

Audrey Cordon-Ragot: Professional cyclist at Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling Team

June 14, 2017 by badassery No Comments

Pro cyclist and two-time French National Time Trial champion, Audrey Cordon-Ragot captained the Wiggle High5 Pro Women’s Cycling Team going into last week’s OVO Energy Women’s Tour. After taking the Queen of the Mountains jersey on day one, she dominated the hill climbs to retain it throughout the 5-stage women’s cycling race and be crowned overall Queen of the Mountains.

I caught up with Audrey in London where the team were relaxing by the Wiggle Team Bus an hour ahead of the final stage, stage 5, of The Women’s Tour. The crit race. A fast, flat 10 laps of the 6.2km circuit and a stark comparison to the hilly Derbyshire route of the previous day’s Stage 4 (arguably the toughest stage with more than 2000m of climbing.)
